ROMAIN ROLLAND
PIERRE AND LUCE
The book was designed to show the ugliness of World War I in contrast with new growing love between two people. In the beginning, before the two individuals meet, the pages are dark and depressing. To support the feeling of distress, pain and roughness of the time, a rough and thick paper is used.
After Pierre meets Luce, a pop of yellow colour starts to show up. Yellow colour is supposed to show their growing love and that even though there is war around the lovers, it does not bother them, because as long as they are together, they will feel safe and happy.
‘Pierre and Luce’ is a beautifully written love story based
in a war environment by author Romain Rolland.
Even though the world was crumbling down, the two
young people found peace in each other and forgot
about everything that was happening around them.
This precious moment that traveled across decades teaches
us how beautiful love and care for each other could be.
This book is not just a story, it is a lesson for all of us — even on
the darkest nights, we shall look for stars.
